What is Bounce Rate, Anyway?

Bounce Rate Formula:

Examples:

  • Company A:
    • Number of Single-Page Sessions: 400
    • Total Number of Sessions: 1,000
    • Bounce Rate = (400/1000) × 100 = 40%
    • 40% of the visitors to Company A’s website left after viewing just one page, suggesting that improvements might be needed to engage visitors and encourage them to explore more content.
  • Company B:
    • Number of Single-Page Sessions: 150
    • Total Number of Sessions: 500
    • Bounce Rate = (150/500) × 100 = 30% Bounce Rate
    • Company B has a bounce rate of 30%, indicating a better level of engagement compared to Company A. A lower bounce rate usually implies that the website’s content is effectively capturing the visitors’ interest, encouraging them to stay and interact with more pages.
