Bluehost is a major name in WordPress hosting and they are an official ‘WordPress' recommended hosting provider. In this Bluehost review, I test their features, support options, performance, and pricing – helping you decide if this is the best web host for you.
If you type web hosting into a search engine like Google, one of the first names that will come out is Bluehost, without a doubt. The reason for this is Bluehost has a lot of market shares, as it’s a part of a large corporation called EIG (Endurance International Group), which is the owner of a bunch of other hosting providers (such as HostGator).
Obviously, they have a lot of money to put into marketing. Besides, they’re also endorsed by WordPress. But does this mean it’s really good? Is it as good as a lot of reviews out there say it is? Well, in this 2022 Bluehost review, I’ll try to answer that question and settle the debate once and for all!
Bluehost isn't perfect – but Bluehost is one of the best web hosts for WordPress beginners offering automatic WordPress installation and a website builder – plus solid features and a free domain name.
If you don’t have time to read this Bluehost review, just watch this short video I put together for you:
As with any other hosting provider out there, Bluehost also has its own set of pros and cons. Let’s take a look at what these are exactly.
Bluehost Pros and Cons
- It’s cheap – Bluehost offers some of the cheapest hosting plans out there, especially if you’re launching a website for the first time. The current price for the Basic shared plan is $2.95/month, paid annually.
- Easy integration with WordPress – after all, it’s the officially recommended web hosting provider by Wordpress.org, along with DreamHost and SiteGround. Their new Bluerock control panel is particularly focused on building and managing WordPress sites. Plus, their 1-click installation process makes it damn easy to install WordPress on your BlueHost account.
- WordPress website builder – Since recently, Bluehost has designed their own website builder that you can use to create your WordPress website from scratch. The Smart AI builder will make sure it’s optimized for any device. The website builder is really easy to use – you have hundreds of templates you can choose from and can edit these templates in real-time, with zero coding knowledge.
- It’s pretty reliable – Bluehost provides a good streak of site uptime and it can definitely be considered a reliable web host.
- Free security options – Bluehost offers a free SSL certificate and a free CDN for each website they host for you. The SSL certificate allows you to facilitate safe eCommerce transactions and keep sensitive data secure, and the CDN allows you to block malware that might attack your site and just improve the overall site security.
- Free domain name for the first year – regardless of what plan you choose, you will get a free domain that costs up to $17.99 (including domains like .com, .net, .org, .blog). But, you will have to pay for domains that cost above $17.99.
- 24/7 available customer support – in addition to this, you can also find support resources in their knowledge base – stuff like FAQs and solutions to common problems, articles and guides on various BlueHost options and processes, instructions on how to use the hosting platform, and YouTube videos.
- Good affiliate program – Bluehost has one of the most sought for affiliate programs, and it’s no wonder since they paid more than $5 million in commissions last year. They give you a $65 commission for each referral, the sign-up process is very easy and free, the tracking process is very reliable with no lost referrals, and you can also take advice from the dedicated team of affiliate managers
- No SLA Guarantee – Unlike other web hosting providers out there, Bluehost doesn’t offer SLA (Service Level Agreement) which basically guarantees no downtime.
- Aggressive upselling – Bluehost’s has a rather aggressive upsell process during sign-up, upon renewing your contract, and upsell pitches are in fact built into the system, and that can be annoying for a lot of users.
- No cloud hosting – Bluehost doesn’t offer cloud hosting. Cloud hosting enables you to harness the operating resources for your site from multiple servers, otherwise, it has to bear the limitations of physical servers.
- Site migration isn’t for free – while most web hosting providers out there will offer to move your site for free, BlueHost will move up to 5 websites and 20 email accounts for $149.99, which is pretty expensive.
Bluehost.com is a cheap, and beginner-friendly web hosting company for when starting your first website, but people do tend to either love 'em or hate 'em.
Here is how our web hosting review process works:
1. We sign up for the web hosting plan & install a blank WordPress site.
2. We monitor the site's performance, uptime, & page load time speed.

Now let's dive into the review…
Bluehost Key Features
Next up are Bluehost’s key features! Let’s take a look at their most important hosting plans, the speed and performance features, their new website builder, and much more!
Hosting Made for WordPress
Bluehost is perfect for hosting WordPress sites because its Bluerock platform is a WordPress focused control panel offering an integrated experience with WordPress websites.
Installing WordPress is a breeze, you can either go through the 1-click automatic WordPress installation process, or you can get WordPress installed on an account set up when you sign up.
Bluerock delivers WordPress pages 2-3 times faster than the prior technical stack, and it comes with built-in NGINX page caching. Every WordPress website will benefit from the latest security and performance features such as:
- Free SSL certificate
- WordPress staging
- Unlimited SSD storage
- NGINX caching
- Free Cloudflare CDN
- cPanel controlpanel
Installing WordPress couldn't be easier!
When you sign up with Bluehost you get asked if you like to get WordPress installed (you can also install WordPress at a later stage.
Bluehost uses an enhanced cPanel dashboard, in it you can access the file manager, and configure email addresses, FTP/SFTP accounts, databases, and much more.
Inside the Bluehost dashboard you can configure and optimize performance performance and security settings for your websites. You can also access your marketing tools (access your free $100 credit for Google Ads and Bing Ads), and create users and website backups.
In your WordPress dashboard you can customize settings for WordPress auto-updating, commenting, content revisions, and of course caching settings.
Caching is a technology that increases the speed of your website. You can choose between different caching levels and you can flush the cache with a press of a button
You can also create staging copies of your WordPress sites. This is great for when you want to clone of your live website and use it to test design or dev changes before making them go live.
Speed and Performance
Speed is very important when it comes to hosting since it affects anything from user experience to your SEO rankings.
If your web hosting service provider cannot provide you fast loading times, and you aren't optimizing your website for speed and performance, you risk losing out on a lot of site traffic.
A study from Google found that a one-second delay in mobile page load times can impact conversion rates by up to 20%.
The good news is that Bluehost is doing well in speed performance tests. I’ve done tests on Bluehost’s speed (using a Bluehost hosted testing site) and I got say that the average site loading time really good.
It gets a 92% mobile score on Google PageSpeed Insights.
And on GTmetric its performance score is 97%.
Cloudflare CDN Integration
Everybody wants to have fast page loading times, especially if you’re into the online retail business. Cloudflare is a CDN (content delivery/distribution network), that utilizes the power of a geographically dispersed network of data centers and proxy servers to maximize security and performance for your site and improve your overall experience with the host.
Basically, CloudFlare’s network plays the role of a vast VPN network, allowing your site to operate through an internet connection that is secure and encrypted.
The good news is that Bluehost offers Cloudflare integration. This vast network of servers around the world will easily store cached versions of your site, so that when a visitor goes to your site, the browser they use to access the site’s content receives it from a CDN network that’s closest to them. Hence, your site ends up having much faster loading times, since it takes much less for the data to arrive at its destination.
Cloudflare is integrated for free on all Bluehost accounts, regardless of the plan. All you need to do is to create a Cloudflare account and enable integration in the control panel.
That’s the Cloudflare Basic plan. You can also use the Premium plan, which comes at an extra charge.
Both plans are mobile-optimized, offer 24/7 customer support, and are SSL-compatible. They also include:
- Global CDN
- Global HD Content Streaming
- On-demand Edge Purge
The Premium plan additionally offers:
- Rate Limiting (this basically allows you to shape and block the traffic coming to your site, based on the number of requests per second)
- Web Application Firewall
- Web Code Compression (Auto Minify)
- Polish (this refers to automatic image optimization, which allows you to remove superfluous data in images, as well as to recompress them, so they load more quickly in visitors’ browsers)
- Argo Smart Routing (algorithms that choose the fastest available route for your site’s data to deliver it to the required destination).
Apart from page load times, it’s also important that your website is “up” and available to your visitors. I monitor uptime for a test site hosted on Bluehost to see how often they experience outages.
The above screenshot only shows the past 30 days, you can view historical uptime data and server response time at this uptime monitor page.
Drag-and-Drop WordPress Website Builder
As I mentioned earlier, Bluehost is very smoothly integrated with WordPress. Regardless of your Bluehost plan, you can utilize the WordPress page builder to create responsive, beautiful-looking websites.
And I’m not just saying this. The Smart AI makes it really easy to create a site from scratch, a site that’ll look good on any device. You can choose from ready-made templates for a quick start, and you can edit the layout in real-time without any need to code.
When you log in, you have the option to create and edit your site either directly from WordPress, or from the Bluehost website builder for WordPress, which is a really simple builder that’s capable of a lot of stuff.
You can use more than 100 free stock photos and upload custom images, videos, or music without any limitations. Bluehost’s builder also allows you to choose from their array of fonts or upload your own if you believe them to be more suitable.
If you want to dabble a little bit more with customization, you can enter your own custom CSS by managing the CSS from the builder dashboard.
Bluehost's WordPress website builders starts at $2.95/month and you can build a professional website using features like:
- Custom CSS – Manage your CSS rules directly within the dashboard.
- Stock Image Library – Get Enjoy access to hundreds of free-to-use photos.
- Live Editing – View changes to your website in real-time as you build, before publishing.
- Quick-Start Smart Templates – Generate custom templates around your preferences.
- Unlimited Uploads – Upload custom images, videos, music, etc. without limitation.
- 1-click WordPress Access – Easily jump back and forth between Builder and WordPress as you customize.
- Custom Fonts – Choose from a suite of fonts or upload your own favorites.
24/7 Customer Support
Like most web hosting providers out there, Bluehost also offers customer support that’s available 24/7. Their customer support can be reached via live chat, email, telephone, and support tickets.
Whatever channel you choose to ask for support, you will be met by experts in the respective fields you need assistance with.
Bluehost also offers a vast knowledge base that you can use when you need help with a particular issue. You can put the keyword of your issue in the search bar and you will get results with the closest match.
To give you an example, we wrote the keyword “site migration” into the search bar and this is what came out:
There is also a Bluehost resource center that contains plenty of resources such as how-to video tutorials, articles, and step-by-step guides.
Who Can You Contact From Bluehost’s Team?
In order to make matters easier for customers, Bluehost has divided its support team into three main categories:
- Technical Support team – as you can see from the name, this team is responsible for different kinds of questions or issues regarding your website, domain names, hosting, etc. Basically, anything that has to do with the technical side of their products.
- The Sales team – responsible for more general info about Bluehost’s products, as well as engaging with potential, new, or regular customers of Bluehost.
- Account Management team – this team deals with matters connected to terms of service, account verifications, and very importantly – billing.
Blue Sky is Bluehost’s WordPress support service. If you plan on hosting a WordPress site and want serious optimization and development of that site, then Blue Sky is a great option.
Blue Sky is a service that gives WP experts, leaders in the industry, at your disposal. They can help you with anything related to WP – like deciding on the best theme for your site, setting up contact forms or doing edits, setting up security, SEO optimization, marketing, etc.
Basically, as it says on Bluehost's website, Blue Sky will help your site “reach its full potential.”
However, you won’t be able to get assistance from Blue Sky’s team for HTML, CSS and other types of coding.
This is a separate Bluehost service that’s separate from their hosting plans, and if you want to use it, you will have to pay an additional monthly fee. There are three plans and the cheapest is $29.99 per month, but if you pay on a 6-month and 12-month basis, the fees are slightly cheaper.
Security and Backup
Bluehost offers very solid security protection for your site. They offer IP address blacklists, password-protected directories, filters for email accounts and user accounts, and access for managing private keys and digital certificates.
Bluehost also offers SSH (secure shell access), which means admins and web developers can securely access configuration files. You can choose between three anti-spam tools: Apache SpamAssassin, Spam Hammer, and Spam Experts. They also offer hotlink protection.
If you’re willing to pay to enhance your site’s security, even more, you can also choose between an array of high-quality paid add-ons, such as SiteLock, which is designed to prevent attacks from hackers, and CodeGuard, which offers more backup options.
SiteLock scans your site for viruses and malware on a daily basis. It also does network monitoring on company servers 24/7.
Additionally, you can take advantage of the two-factor authentication system that they offer so that even if you do experience a hacker attack and they figure out your password, they still won’t be able to gain automatic access to your Bluehost account.
A great thing about Bluehost is that it also comes with Cloudflare integration, which is a type of CDN (free to use), aimed to protect against identity theft and DDoS attacks among others. It also serves to improve your site’s performance and speed, especially for loading times.
Basically, CloudFlare will enhance your site’s security features and your site’s performance, so you should definitely consider using it.
I will be talking more about Cloudflare CDN in the next chapter on Speed and Performance, so you can find out more about how it affects your site’s performance there.
Bluehost’s Backup Options
Bluehost offers complimentary backups to their customers that are updated on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
The trouble is, they don’t really guarantee the success of any of these backups. What does this mean? It means that it might keep incomplete backups – for example, if your files from FTP directories are deleted by accident, you may not get all of your files back. It also means that you won’t be able to access any older versions of your site should you need them, since Bluehost automatically rewrites them.
Instead, Bluehost recommends that you create your own backup option and manage it in-house. You can easily do this by getting a backup add-on, such as Jetpack Backup, which will perform daily and real-time backups for a fee.
No web hosting company is perfects, there are alwsays negatives and Bluehost is not an exception. Here are the biggest negatives.
No Uptime SLA
They do not offer an uptime guarantee. When selecting a hosting provider, you want an uptime of as close to 100% as possible. They do not give you a guarantee, but their Network/Server Uptime Agreement states that “most issues are resolved in approximately 15 minutes”.
They average about a 99.94% uptime. This .05% outage means that over a full year your site is down for 4.4 hours. Overall Bluehost uptime is reliable, but again, there is no guarantee that your site will be up and running most of the time.
Aggressive Upselling Tactics
Their up-selling practices are designed to make you purchase them. In other words, there will be annoying popups and alerts appearing trying to convince you to buy more.
For example, they have upsells to select before you check out and finish signing up with them. Also, there are install add-ons you’ll have to purchase that are normally included with other hosting providers as built-in features.
Free Site Migration is Not Included
If you’re looking to switch web hosts keep in mind they do offer site migrations, however for a fee.
They will transfer up to 5 sites and 20 email accounts for the price of $149.99. Comparing this to other web hosting providers, this is a rip-off as most do not charge anything at all for migrating your site.
But if you are looking to migrate a WordPress site to Bluehost, then this is FREE! Bluehost us offering free website migrations for WordPress websites within the first 30 days after signup.

*** The plans and prices are directly taken from resellerclub.com. Bluehost does not provide their own reselling plans (like SiteGround and HostGator, for example). Instead, they link back to the Reseller Club website. With Bluehost’s RH35 promo code (exclusive for Bluehost customers), you can get 35% off on the prices listed above. The prices listed above apply for monthly payments (the same prices are valid for the 6-month payment schedule). If you choose to pay on a 1-year, 2-year, or 3-year basis, the prices are lower.
Shared Hosting Plans
Shared hosting allows you to share servers with other websites. It means that multiple websites, from different owners, can utilize the resources of one single physical server.
Shared hosting is the reason why Bluehost offers some of the cheapest hosting plans out there. Who should use this option? People that don’t expect too much traffic on their site.
This is because if one of the other websites that use the same server as yours experiences a traffic surge, your site will feel it too. Your site’s performance will be affected and you’ll experience slower page loading times.
However, Bluehost offers “resource protection” in all of their shared hosting plans, which is meant to protect the performance of your site on the shared server regardless of traffic surges of the other hosted websites.
Bluehost offers four shared plans. The Basic one currently starts at $2.95/month, and the most expensive one is Pro at $13.95 per month.
Bluehost’s shared hosting plans are some of the cheapest on the market.
The Basic plan costs only $2.95/month (with the current discount), and comes with essentials such as:
- 1 free WordPress website
- 50 GB SSD storage
- Custom themes
- 24/7 Customer support
- WordPress integration
- AI-driven templates
- Bluehost’s easy-to-use website builder
- Free domain for 1 year
- Free CDN (Cloudflare)
- Free SSL certificate (Let’s Encrypt)
If you want to run more than one site, then the Plus plan is the way to go. It offers an unlimited number of websites, as well as unlimited storage. Besides the same basic features such as WordPress integration, 24/7 customer support, free SSL certificate, free domain for one year, etc., it also offers free Office 365 for 30 days.
If you want to focus on on-site security and have more privacy features, then go for the Choice Plus plan. Besides the basics from the Plus plan, this one also includes free domain privacy and free automated backups for 1 year.
The last option in shared hosting is the Pro plan, which adds more power and optimization to your sites. Besides the upgrades from the Choice Plus plan, it also includes free dedicated IP, automated backups, and a premium, positive SSL certificate.
All shared plans include:
- Domain manager – you can purchase, manage, update and transfer domains.
- SSL certificates – safe online transactions and safeguarding of sensitive data.
- Resource protection – your site’s performance stays unaffected on a shared server.
- Easy creation of websites – a WordPress website builder that’s really easy to use
- Google Ads – Google Ads match credit with a value of up to $150 on the first campaign (valid only for new Google Ads customers who are based in the US)
- Google My Business – if you have a local business, with this you can list it online, put in working hours and the location and you can connect to the customers in your area really quickly.
Bluehost Basic vs Plus vs Choice Plus vs Pro Comparison
Which plan should you get? That is what this section aims to help you find out …
So what are the differences between the Basic, Plus, Choice Plus and Pro hosting packages? Here is a comparison of Basic vs. Plus plan, Plus vs. Choice Plus plan, and Choice Plus vs. Pro plan.
Bluehost Basic vs Plus Review
Their Basic plan is their cheapest plan so it comes with the least resources and features The main difference between the Basic and Plus plan is that with the Basic plan you are only allowed to host one website, but with the Plus plan you can host unlimited websites. If you intend to run multiple websites then you should choose the Plus plan.
Another main difference between these two plans is the amount of web space you are allowed to store on the server. The Basic plan only comes with 50 GB of web space, whereas the Plus plan comes with unlimited storage space. 50 GB is quite a lot of space and should be enough in most cases but if you store lots of images and videos then it can quickly add up.
Finally the number of email accounts and amount of email storage on the Basic plan is quite limited. Perhaps not so much the number of emails as most users never use more than 5 emails, but having only 100MB of email space is quite low and you can quickly run out of space.
You should consider choosing the Plus plan if:
- You want to host unlimited websites on your hosting account
- You want unlimited storage instead of the 50 GB that comes with the Basic plan
- You need unlimited email accounts with unlimited email storage space
- You want SpamExperts which is their spam protection tool
Bluehost Plus vs Choice Plus Review
There are very few differences between the Plus and Choice Plus hosting packages. In fact there are only things that set these plans apart. That is with the Choice Plus plan you get free domain privacy (also known as whois privacy) for your domain, and the Choice Plus plan also comes SiteBackup Pro which is their website backup and restore service.
If you are tossing up between these two plans then you are way better off choosing the Choice Plus plan.
You should consider choosing the Choice Plus plan if:
- You want free domain whois privacy
- You want SiteBackup Pro which is their website backup and restore service
Bluehost Choice Plus vs Pro Review
There are a couple of differences between the Choice Plus and Pro hosting plan that are worth knowing about. The first one, and an important one if you intend to run an ecommerce or more resource-intense WordPress website is that sites on the Pro plan will be hosted on high-performance servers.
High-performance servers on the Pro plan have 80% fewer accounts per server which allow the use of more resources per account (more CPU usage, disk usage, bandwidth). It offers more speed, more power, with fewer users.
The Pro plan also gives you a dedicated IP address and a private (non-shared) SSL certificate.
You should consider choosing the Pro plan if:
- You want high performance servers (i.e. a fast loading website) and fewer users that share the server resources
- You want a free dedicated IP and a private (non-shared) SSL certificate
Which shared hosting plan is best for you?
Their new Bluerock platform is a WordPress focused control panel offering an integrated experience with WordPress websites. Bluerock delivers WordPress pages 2-3 times faster than the prior technical stack. Every site hosted on Bluehost.com will benefit from the latest security and performance features such as:
- Free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate
- PHP7, HTTP/2 and NGINX caching
- WordPress staging environments
- SSD drives
- Free Cloudflare CDN
- Free domain for the first year
Now you know what plans they have to offer and you are in a better position to pick the best shared hosting package for your needs. Remember you can always upgrade to a higher plan if you require more resources and features.
Based on my experience, here is my recommendation for you:
- I recommend that you sign up with the Basic plan if you intend to run a basic single website.
- I recommend that you sign up with the Plus plan if you intend to run more than just one site or a WordPress site.
- I recommend that you sign up with the Choice Plus plan if you intend to run a WordPress or other CMS site, and want security and spam prevention features.
- I recommend that you sign up with the Pro plan if you intend to run an ecommerce site or a WordPress site, and want a dedicated IP address plus security and spam prevention features.
Dedicated Hosting Plans
The dedicated hosting plans give you the option to utilize the resources of an entire server, thus making your site more powerful and optimized, and giving you more control over the services you’re paying for.

All of the VPS plans include:

Bluehost was founded in 2003 by Matt Heaton. He noticed that web hosting services offered at the time were inadequate, so he set out to fix that by building his own web hosting service. The company’s headquarters can be found in Provo, Utah, USA. Their official website is www.bluehost.com. Read more on their Wikipedia page.

Bluehost is the web hosting I recommend for starting a blog.
Is Bluehost Slow?
Bluehost isn’t slow. But how fast it is will depend on which plan you use, how much traffic your site has, and what you use it for.
If you have a lot of traffic or a heavy website (videos, images, widgets, etc,) and you’re using a shared hosting plan, then of course it will be slow. But if you use a plan that gives you more storage and higher performance optimization, such as one of the VPS or dedicated hosting plans, then your site should be pretty fast and you shouldn’t be experiencing any issues
Does Bluehost Have a Website Builder?
Yes, in 2021 Bluehost launched a WordPress Website Builder, which uses a visual, drag-and-drop interface to build a custom website based on WordPress. One of its strong points is its beginner-friendliness. The Bluehost Website Builder is not a separate product that you have to sign up for. If you sign up for a regular WordPress web hosting plan, then the builder is included.
Are Bluehost and HostGator the Same Company?
No, Bluehost and Hostgator are separate brands and companies; but they are both subsidiaries of Endurance International Group (EIG). EIG also owns hosting companies like iPage, FatCow, HostMonster, JustHost, Arvixe, A Small Orange, Site5, eHost and a bunch of smaller web hosts.
How Do I Know if Bluehost is Down?

What Are Bluehost Nameservers?
Nameservers are specialized servers that handle requests from computers about the exact location of a domain name’s services. In layman’s terms, think of it like a phone book. Before calling someone, you would take the time to look up their number in a phone book if you weren’t sure. That’s the logic used with nameservers. Their default nameservers are:
ns1.bluehost.com (IP address 18.104.22.168)
ns2.bluehost.com (IP address 22.214.171.124)

Does Bluehost Let Me Edit Configuration Files?
Yes, you have access to configuration files. For example, you can override and edit the default .htaccess file, add a custom php.ini file, you can access log files and customize error pages, create redirects, hotlink protection etc.

They offer Woocommerce hosting. WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress that turns your site into a fully-fledged online store ecommerce site. Here are just a few of the features offered by the Woocommerce plugin:

Integrate with social media and allow customer reviews.
Extend the look and feel of your online store using free and premium extensions.
What is Bluehost CPU Throttling / Performance Protection?
They keep a very close eye on server resources like CPU and memory. Because of this, they are able to ensure that every user using the server gets an equal share of the server’s resources. Resource intensive websites, poorly optimized websites, and DDoS attacks can still cause issues with the servers. Be warned, if they think a user is causing issues with a server, then that user may be suspended.
What Payment Options Does Bluehost Offer?
In terms of payment they accept all major CC's (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover), PayPal payments, purchase orders, checks (only US residents can pay this way), and money orders (only in US dollars).
Credit Cards: Credit card payment is the default payment option when you create your account. You simply have to fill in your standard card information (expiration date, cardholder’s name, etc.) and it will be saved for future payments.
PayPal: PayPal is one of the accepted payment options. But, only instant payments are accepted. This means you have to have a bank account or CC linked to your PayPal account for it to be an accepted form of payment. Once you set PayPal as your main payment method, all auto-renewals will be taken from your PayPal account.
Money orders or Checks: Money orders and checks are accepted, but only in US money. The hosting term must also be for 12 months or longer. An invoice will need to be created before you send a check or money order, this is to ensure that the amount paid is correct. Services that require monthly renewal cannot be paid by check or money order; they require an active credit card or PayPal account.

Are There Any Other Sites When I Can Find Bluehost Reviews, like Reddit?

What Are the Best Bluehost Alternatives?
This is undoubtedly one of the best known and most popular web hosting companies in the world. However if you are researching providers and are looking for good Bluehost alternatives then here are my recommendations. Cheaper Bluehost alternatives are Hostinger's cheap plans and HostGator (however it's also owned by EIG). The best non-EIG owned alternative is SiteGround (read my SiteGround review here)
Where Can I Find Working Bluehost Coupon Codes?
You can't. They rarely offer promo codes because their pricing is always kept low. They do a great job of balancing price and features and you should visit their official website for current deals and discount pricing.
Bluehost Review 2022 – Summary
Do I recommend Bluehost?
Bluehost is a good web hosting service to try if you’re just starting out with your site. This is because it’s really easy to use, it has an intuitive interface, a nice, simple, but still highly functional website builder, good customer support, and it’s pretty cheap
In fact, it’s one of the cheapest hosts out there. And also, one of its biggest assets is that it has great integration with WordPress.
Finally, Bluehost has been recommended by WordPress as a preferred web host. All this means that with Bluehost, you get pretty good value for your money.
I wouldn’t think twice to sign up for one of their basic plans if I’ve been dying to open that dream website and want a good provider, but have limited financial means. I say – go for it!
So far so good
I had heard a lot of good things about Bluehost. So, when I started my first site, I went ahead and bought their 3 year plan to get the steep discount they offer. I love the easy UI, and fast website speed. I am also enjoying the super-fast support experience. It's been 2 years now since I made the decisions and I am not regretting it one bit.
Bluehost is perfect for most small businesses. BUT only if you use WordPress. Their servers are optimized for WordPress. When I was running my site on wordpress, I never had a bad day. But now that my website is a custom built site, Bluehost doesn't fulfill my needs. If you use WordPress, I can't recommend this host enough!
I was going to move my site from Bluehost to some other host. But after some research I found that Bluehost is better than almost any other web host out there, so I decided to keep my site with Bluehost. I later launched 2 more sites with them and it's all been working flawlessly. Save yourself the hassle of moving your site from one web host to another and start with the best web hosting company in town.
Site Migration Issue
I have tried Bluehost for a year and love its service but when it comes to site migration it has an extra charge. Unlike my other hosting provider, it comes free of charge. But this is the only drawback I see so far.
Definitely Worth Even More
I'd like to give Bluehost a 5-star rating here because it's not only very affordable. It's definitely even more than what you pay for. With its free Google Ads credit worth $150, free SSL, free SSD drives, and free domain name for a year. It's recommended by WordPress, so this is highly reliable.
Bluehost is simple but not fit for me!
I'm not into WordPress and so I simply hate Bluehost because it's just can't simply fit into my business needs. However, concerning pricing, fair speed, and other freebies, I absolutely salute this provider.
WordPress' Recommended Hosting Provider
As officially recommended by WordPress, I have been more curious about Bluehost. That's why I tried paying up for a plan for 3 years. After spending many years online while on this hosting company, I have been satisfied with it and have found the reasons why this is best recommended by WordPress itself. Being affordable, fast, and reliable, its friendly customer support is 24/7 available for your queries and concerns.
Thinking it over…
I'm not quite sure if I will recommend Bluehost plans for your hosting needs. The customer support is terribly bad. I also have to deal with their constant upselling, letting me pay for charges a couple of times without updating my payment status and sometimes unapproved charges.
Works right for me
Bluehost is my hosting provider for nearly 5 years. I don't have any issues with it. Their plans are so affordable and you can upgrade any time based on your budget and business' needs. It also has great discounts for various plans. Bluehost works well with WordPress with some exciting freebies in each plan plus its 30-day money back guarantee.
Yep, that's what I can say – LOL. Do they openly advertise their ridiculous renewal rates or not? Because I don't recall being informed that renewal prices are around 80-90% higher than the first subscription. Pulling a plug on then, going elsewhere.
Amazing Tech Support
With the help of tech support I was able to launch my company. I have ZERO knowledge on this, they literally walked me through everything. You won't this level of service from other providers. 100% will renew with them.
There are things that happened to our website that I absolutely did not understand why such happened. I tried to gain clarity and asked if they did something from their end but they responded in such a condescending and all knowing tone blaming me (the customer) that it was all my fault. Ever heard of Customer Service etiquette guys?
I have been with Bluehost for over 3 years and I am very pleased with how the chat support helps customers like me with issues immediately.
Could improve stability a bit
I don't have any major complaints but sometimes I experience weird down time. It doesn't happen very long nor does it occur often but there are just some odd days that uptime is questionable. They could at least give a heads up or proper explanation when that happens.
Avoid this provider if you don't want to lose money and clients. Anytime they consider you have to much traffic, they block the access to your content to your clients and to yourself. You can't either download the content and move if elsewhere cause they block the access to anyone! I had the package with unlimited bandwidth and suddenly they blocked the traffic. The support is not even trying to assist me, to solve it out. Worst experience with a webhost provider! AVOID THEM!
happy and grateful with chat support
I have been with Bluehost for over 3 years and I am very pleased with how the chat support helps customers like me with issues immediately.
Good for WordPress
It only took a few minutes to install WordPress and the updates don't require my attention. I have yet to receive an update that broke my site. The Bluehost platform makes it very easy to build and manage your website. My only problem is that they don't offer free site migration service like Siteground does.
Used to be one of the best
I started my first website on Bluehost about 5 years ago. Since, I have hosted dozens of websites for my clienst. It was one of the best services in the industry. The quality of customer support seems to be going downhill since the last two years.
Excellent For Bloggers
I read about Bluehost from a blogger I follow. She recommended Bluehost and said it is one of the best. Starting my first blog took only a couple of hours and I haven't faced any problems since.
Great hosting. Excellent prices!
Great hosting. Excellent prices. I have never had any trouble with the hosting. Hosting plans are good.
My previous web host never answered my calls. I couldn't get a hold of them whenever my site went down and it went down quite a bit. I have faced some problems wiht Bluehost but the customer support team has been able to resolve them within minutes.
Bluehost has been a good partner
Bluehost has been a good partner of mine running my blog. Support can be a bit slow at times but that's a sacrifice I'm happy to pay for the great price and features.. All good!
Expensive addon services that you don't need
When I signed up, Bluehost recommended a lot of services such as CodeGuard that I should add to my cart. Being a beginner, I did, but I later found out I didn't really need any of these services. Except for that, Bluehost is realiable and has great uptime.
not what I expected
I had heard only good things about Bluehost when I signed up. Hell, it's officially promoted by WordPress.org website. I have had plenty of problems with other web hosts too but I have faced a lot of problems in the last few months on Bluehost. My website is slow, it went down for too much CPU usage. At least the support is good.
Haven't had any problems in the last two years
I have 21 websites with Bluehost as of now and I haven't faced any problems at all. I work with clients so the cost isn't a big deal to me, but I like it that Bluehost is so cheap and inexpensive. I would pay what we pay every month just for the amazing support I receive alone. The tech support team isn't a chatbot that refers simply refers you to documenntation, you get to talk to real people who know what they are talking about. If you manage multiple website, move over to Bluehost.
Fair pricing for a great service
The pricing may not be cheapest but the quality of service I have received has been really good. Their dashboard makes it very easy to manage everything.. The customer support is great too. I recommend Bluehost for beginners.
Great Hosting Company
I have hosted my website on multiple web hosts in my career. And with every host my website would go down. Since I moved sites to Bluehost's Pro plan, I haven't seen any downtime.
Site got slower
I migrated my website to Bluehost after hearing that there servers are supposedly faster than most other web hosts. I actually saw a drop in site speed right after moving my website over to their servers.
Lots of upselling!
Hello! I have purchased a 36 month plan and their $35.00 jump start package. Well, I've had nothing but hard pressure salesman trying to sell me a website build and SEO word local for $6,000.00 for 6 months; including the website for $3,000.00. They do not want to provide help as the advertise with your webhosting; they make rude comments about you and try to take in the Money from you. They told me how dump I was and I needed to pay them. They won't spend the time with you to get start. They offer ridiculous high costs for help and then tell me I can make a profit teaching some one else. As you are reading costs for help, you will notice how the prices keep going up and they keep being dishonest. Beware of them. Good Luck asking for a manager!!! My other web hosting company I use is excellent and I've had them for 17 years with NO PROBLEMS!!! I wanted to build another website on a different webhoster and see the differences and keep this WordPress website separate. I haven't even started building this website yet; due to ALL the Harassment I've been getting and no help to bring the platform~template to the C-panel. Their C-panel is more difficult than others I've delt with. Just today one of their sales reps phoned me arguing and high pressuring me to let them build my website and do the SEO words. I informed him, I would have to teach him what SEO words~phrases they would have to use and I wouldn't be getting paid to teach them; because, they dont work with hardly any animal sites; just concrete and city lights [corporate] websites. He wanted a $1,000.00 a month for 6 months and $3,000.00 for a 5 page website that wasn't going to work for my business. He was higher than the last guy 3 weeks ago that I mentioned on here. Furthermore, their templates that are free are outdated and the newer ones within 10 to 15 years cost money to purchase. I have spoken with Gentleman from WordPress and he explained they are there to help you for free and no charge; especially, since I was purchasing a brand new design~platform~template for my use. But, that other WordPress sites. I told them how Blue Host was charging us and he said come to them 24/7 and they will help us for free. The Best to ALL of you! I still will keep my other hosting company. Also, they stated there wasn't a charge for migrating to another hosting company. It's good to know they have no integrity and their fingers crossed behind their backs when pitching their sale spill. Thank you for your honesty!
Amazing Customer Support
Thanks to the customer support I was able to launch my first website within a couple of hours without any technical knowledge. They are friendly, quick, and patient. They explain everything very well and in easy words.
The service is getting worse by the month
When I started with Bluehost, it was the best service in town. Quick response time and friendly reps. Now, it seems they have dropped their quality standards for support reps.
Possibly The Worst
possibly the worst hosting company i've ever dealt with. Support is hard work, uptime is questionable and when they start to have problems (like not being able to login) they put the blame on you and suspend your account quoting some rubbish on their website. my advice – STAY CLEAR
Downtime is awful
Bluehost is known for negative customer reviews and there server downtime is awful. I had site downtime for a week. Now all of a sudden my websites are down due to a Suspended Status. They are telling me I violated Terms. They are accussing me of allowing music streaming illegally. I have proof that this is a legit script I bought and I even have API Keys through both Spotify and You Tube that I obtained by appliying for them.
I've been using them for years, maybe around 10
I've been using them for years, maybe around 10. They go through phases where some years they upgrade and are great, then it slows down, then they upgrade and it's great again. This is the same with mosts hosts if you're a longtime customer. Every year there is a new “Best Host.” But Bluehost is always hanging somewhere in the top 10. I switched to their Wordpress Hosting earlier this year and it's been amazing, although a little expensive. My site is so fast now! I was bogging down the shared servers before and they asked I move to a VPS so the WP Hosting with 4GB of ram suited me perfectly. As long as you use Cloudflare + MaxCDN or Cloudflare + Cloudfront, you can get by for a long time on the shared servers, your admin page will just be slow if you have too many plugins in Wordpress. Over the years I've had very few problems and usually the Chat customer support fixes them pretty quickly and their technicians are crazy good at troubleshooting things. I make more than a living on my part time blog (alikgriffin.com) and feel very safe and comfortable with Blue Host!
Not without its problems
I have been with Bluehost for over a year now. While I have mostly good things to say about the service., I have faced a couple of problems here and there. I would give Bluehost two stars or even less if it weren't for their support team. They have helped me solve all my problems within minutes. They are the reason why I am still with Bluehost.
I chose hostinger instead
I chose hostinger as an alternative because they had very reasonable pricing. After hosting with them for a while I can see that their performance is great, they have great uptime, and the website is loading quite fast, very satisfied with that. If I face any challenges, the support is always alert and ready to help as well I occasionally use their knowledge base to improve my website performance. So far I am very happy with hostinger hopefully, they will continue to provide high-quality services as I am not thinking of migrating anywhere soon.
The service is FIRST CLASS!
I have been with them for about a year. The service is first class! I normally use the livechat to talk with them and I get detailed responses from them regarding my questions. I highly recommend them mostly because I am not technical and they always talk to me in a language that I can understand, which I love.
Best place for beginners
Creating my first website with Bluehost has been an easy process. They make it super easy for even a technical newbie like me to build websites. And the best part is I can always reach their friendly customer support whenever I need and I always get an answer within minutes. If you are a beginner, highly recommended!
Been with Bluehost for a couple of months now. Haven't seen any downtime or any other problems. Building my first site was a breeze.
They just shut down our site
They just shut down our site- for 24 hours- they thought there was a payment issue (charge back from last year). We had paid about $ 700.00 for 2018. Very arrogant to shut it down and no communication for 12 hours. We are going to look around for another provider.
The one and only reason I am giving this company a semi-decent review is mainly because of their ONE knowledgeable support agent. I would call in COUNTLESS times and request alanna keel to assist me with my server as EVERYONE else would keep me on hold for 30 minutes or more. I had my site migrated to my VPS account, which mind you, I PAID FOR!! Long story short, the migration was extremely messed up and my sites were all types of broken. After being on hold for an hour waiting for “Steven” the apparent manager to come to the phone (Apparently managers are too busy to attend to customers, WHO KNEW) I hung up and got an unexpected suprise when I called back. After explaining my frustration for the THIRD TIME, I got alanna who actually fixed my sites within 15 minutes. All 4 of them. Didnt even put me on hold. They were fixed before I ended my story, if were being completely honest. It needs more employees that know what they are doing. 2 years ago, I could call in and have my problem fixed in 2 minutes. These days, the support is so slow. ALSO DO NOT OPEN A CHAT, I DONT THINK THEY CAN UNDERSTAND SIMPLE ENGLISH. I feel bad for employees like Alanna, who are CLEARLY picking up the slack for the poorly trained agents they currently have, Unfortunately, after october I was unable to get in touch with my favorite agent so I ended up cancelling services and moved to Godaddy. I give them a 80/100 for one reason only. The superior support from ONE person I talked to out of 20. Host with caution!!!!!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Refused to refund my money!! After a failed attempt to cancel my renewal (due to some unknown issue) they have failed to honour their money back guarantee, stating yet more technical issues. They could neither explain the problem nor give even an estimated time frame for my refund, refusing to narrow it down to days, months or (shockingly) even years! Their customer support could barely understand what I was saying half the time, and the wait times for live chat were upwards of 10 minutes. When I asked simple questions they would ignore my question and simply rattle a scripted nonsense that had nothing to do with my query! If they didn't like my question they would simply stop responding. I cancelled my hosting renewal because not only had the price increased 3 fold but their website was impossible to use. I had to ask a friend who builds websites for a living to help install wordpress as their one-click install didn't work.
I really wish I had seen this before I went and signed up with them
I really wish I had seen this before I went and signed up with them a couple of months ago. I guess now it's too late to get my money back :sadface. I guess I shouldn't complain too much, so far BH has been good and I have had to ask support for help, but I'm worried what the future will bring. Lisa, what host would you use for a small blog?
I will be hosting my site with this company
I'm pretty much certain that I will be hosting my site with this company. Here's what I don't really understand. Do you think I should register my domain name with them too, or should I register it from somewhere else like Godaddy?
It's nice to read a somewhat negative review
Hi, just wanted to say that I love your site's content and design. It's nice to read a somewhat negative review. I know you're using Wordpress (I know that much 🙂 but what theme is it that you're using?
I will use Bluehost
My 2017 new year resolution is to start a blog and I will use these guys to host my new WordPress powered blog.
I am much happier with Siteground
I am much happier with Siteground after I moved my site over to them. It was good but when the site started to get some serious traffic I ran into more and more troubles with BH. This is a great site though, love the info and that you are honest about things (very refreshing compared to all the other “review” sites out there) / xoxo Linda
What a gold nugget
What a gold nugget of useful information your ‘mini' site is. You have certainly condensed everything there is to know about Blue Host into one singular place. Your FAQ is useful beyond words! Well done and keep up the great work!
Sign up with Bluehost and give them a go
Thx for helping me out in my quest to find a new web host for my photography blog. I'll sign up with Bluehost and give them a go. Their 30 days money back guarantee should mean it's risk free and if I change my mind I get my money back, right?
unbiased and honest review
Hi it's great to see and very refreshing to read an unbiased and honest review about a web hosting company like BlueHost. If you're after a dirt cheap web host then I think you cannot go wrong by signing up with BlueHost, of course you get what you pay for but I have found them to be reliable for small business and personal blog type websites.
